SST PUBLICATION POLICY

The Seafood Science and Technology (SST) Society encourages and supports the exchange of technical information and experience concerning all aspects of seafood and aquacultured product quality and safety. The topics can be basic or applied sciences, technical reviews, actual experiences, or recommendations and position statements. Authors may include representatives from government, academic or private sectors in either domestic or international settings. Students are especially encouraged to participate.

Selection of presentations for the annual SST meeting is based on brief abstracts that are printed in the annual program agenda. The submissions are not edited and represent the author’s original text. Following the annual meeting, SST has always strived to preserve the proceedings in a bound manual of papers. These papers are voluntary submissions by the respective authors and they are not subject to peer review. In some instances, the authors choose not to submit their paper due to time constraints, intentions to publish elsewhere, or other personal reasons.

The meeting abstracts are compiled and reproduced without formal reviews.  Content is the sole responsibility of the authors.  The Society intent is to compile preliminary results from ongoing research and advisory services to facilitate communication between regional investigators, industries, and government entities.  Reproduction of a presentation in the final proceedings does not preclude supplementation and further publication work in reviewed journals and similar productions.

In 2000 the SST Society introduced this dedicated web site, which will contain all previous and future proceedings. All future SST proceedings will be posted here on a new ‘Extended Abstract’ format (see Extended Abstract Instructions). This approach reduces time constraints and conflicting publication concerns for the authors, while still maintaining the SST intent to preserve the annual proceedings. This approach allows for more cost effective filing and distribution of the proceedings with color graphics and illustrations.

‘Extended Abstracts’ allow use of common PowerPoint or similar formatted presentations that are typically presented during the meetings. Likewise, it allows preservation of the information with color illustrations and graphics. This approach encourages submissions by the authors by reducing the time to prepare formal papers without compromising their intentions to publish the full or final versions of their work in an established peer reviewed journal. The submissions will simply be converted for placement on the website whereby they can be accessed and printed on demand with proper credits for the authors and society.

SST EXTENDED ABSTRACTS

Instructions to Authors

The SST Extended Abstract format is intended to reduce time constrains and work for the authors while encouraging preservation of the annual SST proceedings. This approach offers two basic layouts; 1) all text, or 2) text supporting the slides used either as Microsoft PowerPoint displays or similar slide programs used during the presentation.

Submissions: Computer disk, zip-drive or CD, yet preferable via email. Prefer Microsoft Word

Font: Text font size 12; New Times Roman

Layout: MAIN TITLE; all bold, upper case fonts

Subtitles; not recommended, but if necessary, upper and lower case fonts, not bold Use italic fonts for customary scientific nomenclature. No page numbering necessary. Computer file will maintain page order and eventually page numbering will be provided when posted with proceeding contents on web site. Author Names

List all authors and their affiliation. Full affiliation in 12 font upper & lower case, with numbered identity for respective affiliations. Abstract: Minimum two pages, plus references and acknowledgements
Follow typical sequence for scientific papers (Introduction, Methods, Results/Discussion & Conclusions or Recommendation; or Objectives, Approach, & Results/Discussion). Each section does not have to begin with a subtitle, i.e., Methods. Information should flow with transition between sections in the extended abstract.

Use of Microsoft PowerPoint or similar slide programs is strongly encouraged, but it must be accompanied with additional text if necessary to explain the message, figure and/or illustrations.
PowerPoint/Slide Layout Use of Microsoft PowerPoint or other slide formats can be inserted throughout text of abstract and/or referenced in the abstract.

SST strongly encourages use of text to accompany extracted portions of the slide presentations. This approach maximizes exchange of information without additional work for the authors.
